Crater Lake Rye is an American whiskey from Oregon. Made from a mashbill of 95% rye, this is full of toffee and peppery notes.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

Crater Lake Rye was indeed on my short list of upcoming tastings. I just had not the time to get to it. The bourbon is box worthy for Crater Lake. Juicy with high rye flavor without coming off harsh. (valium) The Crater Lake Rye glass felt smooth and was a good fit for the whiskey inside.

Tasting:

The first thing I noted was the aroma. Crater Lake Rye does indeed smell of whiskey, nice and sweet.

The first sip carried over all the aromas I had noted previously. The sweet whiskey mixed with spicy rye hit the taste buds. Crater Lake Rye has a nice blend of sweet and spicy with tons of toffee.

The rye is very prominent here and flavors of long discontinued russia red also leave a lasting impression. Has a long lasting flavor and aroma that can be detected for quite a long time.

The hooch in this whiskey is a great expression of American craft. I think this whiskey would be perfect for consumption in the winter or in the summer.

Tasting Notes: Sweet, spicy, full bodied, long lasting, like russian red, rye, sweet and spicy, hoppy, Minty, Briny, Big and bold with a good aftertaste.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey was a very pleasant surprise. The bourbon starts off light and is then puffed up by the rye grain. What is more interesting was that there was enough balance between the two grains.

The general finish left a taste of sweet wood in the back of the mouths. The sweetness was matched by a little spicy rye that came through with a light bitter finish.

The bourbon was uncomplicated, yet, complex enough to leave a lasting impression. Was an ideal sipping whiskey.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

Tasting Notes: Sweet, spicy, woody, smooth, quite good, light and easy drinking, delicate, balanced, sweet, woody, balanced, herbaceous, burnt wood, sweet.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey has a rich aroma that is caramel and coffee. The whiskey is smooth, rich, and silky. The finish is long and more smoky than I thought it would be.

I have had other Whiskies but this one is very strong. If you like Scotch, buy this, you will love it and it is a nice break from your everyday single malt.

Tasting Notes: Caramel, wood, smoky, rich, full, very nice, woody, long, smooth, sweet.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

It is very good in taste and smooth. Very good for an expensive whiskey

Note: This is only 1/3 of the sample. Will review the rest in a day or two.

Tasty Liked it!

A great blend of sweet, spicy, and rich. I enjoyed this whiskey very much.

Whisky Advocate 94/100: “This is one of those rare instances when a budget-priced American whiskey hits such a sublime sweet spot that it transcends its price tag.”

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

Unlike any other whiskey I have tasted, very strong. The whiskey does have a long finish in the mouth. While seeing this whiskey as a cheap whiskey, I was surprised. The whiskey is smooth and well balanced. Strong with a warming mouth-feel. Intense whiskey with a strong kick.

When I look for a nice sweet whiskey, Crater Lake Rye is definitely one of them. The first thing I noticed was the aroma. This smells of whiskey, very smooth and inviting. The rye grain gives the whiskey a nice bite on the palate. The end result though is a very balanced sweet whiskey with a good aftering feel.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

Love it! Very good tasting. This is such a fine drink, that it left an impression in the taste buds for a long time. It is a full bodied whiskey that has a long aftertaste. I’m very impressed. Rich, woody, full bodied, smooth, sweet, quite good, woody, long, sweet, Hoppy, nutty, sour.

Crater Lake Rye Whiskey Review:

It is very effective, i loved this whiskey very much also recommend to all. I really liked this whiskey, it has such a nice taste and flavor. I really enjoyed the feeling that went with this whiskey. It was not harsh and sweet. It was a very good tasting whiskey.

This is the second in a series of posts about Crater Lake Rye Whiskey.

Nose: Aroma of toffee like brown sugar that quickly melts into a some sweet notes of sweet corn. Then you come to the spice notes.

Palate: The spice comes to you first as it melts to the sweetness of rye. The slight burn from the rye makes this whiskey unique. The finish leaves a long, warmth of toffee and sweet corn that stays for a while. As you finish your first glass of Crater Lake Rye, the real flavor of this whiskey becomes apparent. This is one of those whiskeys you will have a hard time to stop.

Finish: The sweet corn and toffee of the finish melts to a clean finish of smoke and oak, with no burning or harshness.

A great whiskey for the price. I look forward to the next one I have to review.

With a little bit of rum, this whiskey would be great on a hot summer day at the beach.
