Cancer is a complex condition that takes root at the cellular level of our bodies. That means it’s deep within us, and interacts with the food that we eat. A protective diet is a must-have.

If you don’t have access to a dietitian, these books do incredibly well for cancer patients and those with family history of cancer. We’ve made sure these authors have authority to write on the subject – you’ll find advice from oncologists, dietitians and doctors who base their guidance on experience and scientific findings.

What’s more, is that we’ve included the books that provide a positive approach to having a healthy diet. Cancer is a heavy subject, so an appropriate level of understanding and empowerment is a must for these diet books.

Anti Cancer by David Servan-Schreiber

This product was recommended by Silva Misho from Rubi Wellness

I highly recommend this book for anyone battling cancer or looking to prevent it. The author, also a medical doctor, shares his personal story about his cancer diagnosis and the difficulties he encounters throughout his treatments.

He sets out to educate himself beyond the world of conventional medicine and finds very compelling scientific evidence that lead him to an in-depth lifestyle transformation and eventual healing.

The results of his findings and personal experiences give readers a roadmap to a cancer-prevention lifestyle and equips them with a comprehensive diet plan to optimize their chances for greater health and even remission or reversal of cancer.

How Not to Die by Michael Greger

This product was recommended by Allie Gregg from bTrue

I love this book because it tells you not only his recommendations but he backs it up with tons of scientific evidence (148 pages of references to be exact!) More than that he writes in a clear and concise manner that is easy to read. Lastly, he shows people how to begin implementing changes in his Daily Dozen section. It does a wonderful job of saying exactly what to do and how often. There are over 3,000 five star reviews on Amazon so it’s definitely my pick

Written by the American Cancer society, this book of over 102 recipes for what cancer patients can eat to help relieve some of the side effects. With the use of photographs, tips for caregivers, ways to deal with vitamin deficiencies, this book is a great resource to help combat cancer.

Chris Beat Cancer by Chris Wark

This product was recommended by Erik Edwards from The Hempire

I was diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer a year ago. I began taking a targeted medicine (a kind of chemo in a daily pill) from my oncologist but also began looking for nutritional ideas. Then I discovered Chris! I started watching his videos and eventually joined his Square One program to get even more direction. Now with the book, we have it all! One of the best things is that he explains why there’s such a divide between traditional medicine and nutritional sources. I asked the PA at my oncologist’s office if they had any dietary advice for me and the answer was No. You’re thin so just drink lots of milkshakes and don’t lose weight! Milkshakes. That was her advice.

Chris changed my whole perspective on food. I’m juicing and eating close to his prescribed menu–and cancer has shrunk drastically. My doctor thinks in terms of managing cancer for several years (no talk at all of the healing), but because of Chris, I now hope to completely heal. Get the book–but be sure to watch some of his video interviews on YouTube too. Hearing the testimonies of so many people who have healed through nutrition alone is powerful, and you’ll get to know Chris even better. He is balanced, reasonable, smart but humble. He has spent the years since his own diagnosis researching the science behind healing through nutrition. He’s cancer-free after 15 years of following his own advice. That’s the best rec of all, right? Thank you, Chris, for EVERYTHING!

The Longevity Diet By Valter Longo

This product was recommended by Erik Edwards from The Hempire

This hurts. I’ve admired Dr. Longo’s ingenuity, creativity, and genius for a while now. I loved one of his documentaries on FireStick…watched podcasts and interviews. I loved each and every single one of them. Then I bought this book. It all fell apart for me. I’d have returned it if it wasn’t because I had earmarked a few pages. The first few parts of the book are mostly autobiographical. Call me crazy but I was not that interested in that portion of the book.

I mean, he’s led a very rich life, I just don’t want to pay to hear about it. Tell me all about it over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, for free. The rest of the book is a huge sale on his Prolon FMD product. Which is fine. I’d have loved to know what I was getting myself into before actually paying to buy advertising. IF, and that is a big IF, you are not familiar at all with fasting and its benefits it will serve you better to watch his documentary. Also, there is another great documentary about fasting, etc. called The Science of Fasting. Both are great. IF you are unable to fast for health or weight loss due to health issues or social issues or whatever, then sure, you can pay to get the FMD Prolon info from his book …or…you could get it for free on his website

This book is a gift of God for cancer patients. The recipes given in this book meet the nutritional needs; treat the side effects of drugs and chemo like nausea and diarrhea, besides match taste buds of all.

The Cancer-Fighting Kitchen by Rebecca Katz

This product was recommended by Stephanie Chuang from The Patient Story

As a cancer survivor myself, I understand the importance of relying on good information, especially when it comes to health and food. Rebecca Katz’s The Cancer Fighting Kitchen book was instrumental in guiding my diet during the nearly 700 hours of chemotherapy I underwent to fight my blood cancer. There’s so much data out there but I found Ms. Katz’s writing to be reasonable, comforting in its suggestions, with recipes that people will want to follow even if they’re not going through cancer treatments.

The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee

This product was recommended by Jamie Bacharach from Acupuncture Jerusalem

The Emperor of All Maladies represents a landmark work in the history of cancer, its research and its study. The Pulitzer Prize winning piece by Siddhartha Mukherjee is self defined as a ‘biography of cancer’ and certainly lives up to the billing. Featuring clear and concise information regarding the discovery and chronicles of the disease, Mukherjee helps readers understand the makeup of cancer as well as the daunting task of conquering it. Truly a must-read for anyone seeking to learn more about or gain a deeper understanding of cancer.
