World Food Day sees the nation rediscover their love for home cooking

Will Broome of Ubamarket shares tips for home-cooking Brits looking to get in and out of the supermarket as quickly as possible .

Today marks World Food Day, an event which people recognise the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.  With the introduction of the “three-tier” lockdown system causing localised lockdowns across the country, millions of people are rediscovering their love for home-cooking. Now that the majority of Brits in the affected areas working from home once again, restaurants closing, and with a restricted number of takeaway options available, more people in Britain are cooking at home now than ever before.

In light of this, Ubamarket, an innovative app that enables shoppers to shop quickly by recipe and pay in-app, has commissioned a nationally representative study, to discover what the nation is eating during the Coronavirus crisis, and what those who are new to home-cooking may like to try.

According to Ubamarket’s survey, which found that 21% of Brits base the meals they eat at home almost entirely on recipes they have enjoyed previously in restaurants, the nation’s favourite lockdown recipe is Curry, closely followed by Spaghetti Bolognese and a good old-fashioned roast:

  1. Curry – 21.6%
  2. Spaghetti Bolognese – 20.0%
  3. Roast Dinner – 19.8%
  4. Lasagne – 13.1%
  5. Chilli – 12.2%
  6. Casserole – 6.9%
  7. Stir Fry – 6.5%
  8. Shepherd’s Pie – 6.1%
  9. Cottage Pie – 5.8%
  10. Soup – 4.7%

The British palate is clearly diverse, with curry and spaghetti bolognese topping the charts, and many of the meals in Britain’s top-10 are quintessential “home-cooked” dishes, such as cottage pie, shepherd’s pie, casserole and roast dinners.

Now, one of the biggest issues facing a nation of new chefs is how to find and purchase all of the necessary ingredients for their kitchen creations efficiently and safely. With this in mind, Founder of Ubamarket, Will Broome, offers tips and advice on how to conduct your supermarket shop in the time of Coronavirus:

“There are some supermarkets in the UK whose shoppers are lucky enough to benefit from retail technology, such as Ubamarket, which provides features like remote stock checks, aisle sat-navs and till-less checkout to make your shop as fast, efficient and hygienic as possible. However, even if you don’t have access to such a store, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure that you get round the supermarket faster and more successfully than you ever have before:
