Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is an oriental-inspired spirit from The Shed Distillery in Co Leitrim that’s setting the world alight. Taking its name from one of the signature botanicals, slowly dried Gunpowder tea, the recipe also includes lime, lemon and grapefruit. This will work best with a Mediterranean tonic water.

Our brilliantly brave drinks tester served himself a portion of fresh oysters with the Gin, then washed back the liquor with a tall, chilled glass of tonic water. We recommend “firing” your gin, only a small portion at a time, of course.

The Gin mixes well with the fresh, zesty flavour of the Gunpowder, with the citrus being lifted nicely by the Gunpowder tea. The gin itself is distilled in copper pot stills and bottled with a natural cork that gives a soft, peaty character.

The Shed Distillery intend to launch eight expressions of this naturally flavoured gin over the next year, including summer liqueurs and elderflower vodkas that will include fresh fennel, elderflower, rose petals, and lavender. Perfect for barbeques or to enjoy as an apéritif.

If you just fancy a pint of plain ole’ good-old fashioned pints, avoid the unsliced lemons and substitute with fresh mint leaves or a slice of seasonal fruit. Then mix up a nice Irish Shandy, or brew some Gunpowder tea to create your own mocktail for a non-alcoholic evening beverage.

Definitely ahead of the game is the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Dublin Coddle cocktail, with its stout beer and guinness-based ingredients.

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is an award-winning product, created by the Shed Distillery in Co Leitrim. So if you’re a fan of the distillery, or fancy learning a little about how Irish gin is made, visit them at The Shed Distillery and stand at the foot of the stills that are producing the product.

The Drumshanbo Gunpowder is produced in small batches of 1000 bottles at a time. The gin is then sold through the distillery’s online store in such countries as – Great Britain, U.S.A., Denmark and Sweden, as well as Irish retailers and further newsagents across Ireland.

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin was launched in February 2016, has won five gold medals, was sold out within five months, and is set to expand the flavour range in the Summer of 2016. October 2016 will see the launch of the brand new Gunpowder Summer Liqueur.

The taste of the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is incredible, unlike anything else on the market. Made with all-natural ingredients and blended in small batches in a copper-pot still, this juniper-forward gin will tickle the fancy of any gin lover while allowing for the taste of the spirit to shine through.

One of the reasons why it’s so unique is because of the blend of the very high quality ingredients and the pot still that is used to produce it. In addition, as the gin is up to 40% abv, it is unusual to find a spirit of that strength.

We love the fact that The Shed Distillery has a stragic plan to launch eight different expressions of this naturally flavoured gin over the next year.

Indeed, it is possible to get a taste for the brand, with the only vodka that The Shed produce. This is available in retail and online stores this November. The vodka is not only infused with the eight botanicals used in the production of the gin but also includes elderflower, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, and a hint of pinhead oats. It is distilled in copper pot stills and bottled with a natural cork that gives a soft, peaty character.

If you just fancy a pint of plain ole’ good-old fashioned pints, leave the lime and slice a green apple instead. Then mix up a nice Irish Shandy, or brew some Gunpowder tea to create your own mocktail for a non-alcoholic evening beverage.

Overall, you can’t go wrong with the Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. The product is unique among other spirits on the market. From the bottle design, to the production process, and the range of flavours, everything about this brand reflects the hard work and creative vision that went into producing it.

This is a gin that will please lovers of extra-strong gins, but it’s also a spirit that won’t frighten away consumers who steer clear of such drinks. It’s an excellent all-around spirit and is definitely worth placing a bottle or two in your liquor cabinet.
